Sketching a Wedding Invitation Suite

One of the challenges that comes with my job as a wedding invitation designer? Effectively helping couples to envision what their wedding invitations will look like, before I have actually created any of the artwork!

Browsing through my work, you’ll notice that I lean heavily on color, detail, whimsy, and creativity to produce stationery that’s truly one-of-a-kind. All of that can be hard to convey with a black and white sketch, and plus, a lot of my best ideas, the elements that make my suites truly unique and personal, come about post-sketching phase, while I’m immersed in the process of painting and designing! That said, I have to start somewhere, and I do need to make sure couples are on board with my ideas at the outset!

I like to lay down a framework using pretty rough sketches, and I aim to fill in the blanks and fuel couples’ imaginations of what their stationery will look like by providing comprehensive notes that detail what I’m thinking about the direction of the suite.

I understand how difficult it can be to see a sketch and envision the final result in it’s full watercolor glory, so I thought I would share some past design concepts, and show you how they ultimately turned out!
