Should I Include a Details Card in My Wedding Invitation Suite?

A bride recently asked me: what exactly is a details card?... What’s a details card!? Only perhaps the most important part of the wedding invitation suite! Okay, okay, the invitation itself is a pretty important component. But hear me out, the details card does a whole lot of work, and you can take advantage of it to make sure your guests are completely in the know as the big day approaches.

All the Details, All in One Place
Why do I appreciate the details card so deeply? Slightly smaller than its sibling, the invitation (I typically size my details cards at 4.25x5.5 inch), the details card is a super-handy, super-portable info card where you have a lot of flexibility on what you’d like to include. While the invitation will live on your guests’ fridge, the details card is a useful component of the suite that guests can quickly reference as they prep to attend the wedding. Ideally, it’s something they’ll slip into their pocket or purse as they head off to attend your festivities. Whenever I’m a guest, that’s what I do! 

What Information Can I Include? 
The information that you include on your details card will depend on a variety of factors. How formal (or not) is your invitation suite? How are guests RSVPing to the event(s)? Are you having a wedding weekend, or simply celebrating on the day of? The answers to questions like these will help you determine what you need to include on your details card, and how you should include it. Some common information to present on the details card include: 

• Accommodations/Hotel Block info
• Transportation notes
• Wedding website and password, and guests will find there
• Schedule of events for the day/weekend
• Dress code(s)
• Additional notes specific to your wedding (adults only wedding, notes about traffic, etc.) 
• RSVP info (in lieu of RSVP card, if replying online) 

How to Make a Details Card Standout

Details cards are not just a great place to store all of this information, but also a great place to really bring your wedding to life, add personality to your suite, and get your guests excited for the big day. Illustrated maps and timelines are both fabulous ways to make your details card extra fun.

Do you really still have to ask? Yes, yes, yes! A details card can work for you by helping to ensure that your guests are informed, prepared, and excited! In my eyes, it’s a must for any custom wedding invitation suite.
